Last April we received a letter from my husbands aunt and uncle to come and stay with them for a week this summer at their house on the lake in Sandpoint Idaho.

We had good reasons to say no. It was a long trip with five kids, it conflicted with other things on our schedule, and it meant Michael missed a few days of work.

But we worked all these things out because we didn’t know if there would be another opportunity like this to spend time together. So we said yes.

I’m glad we said yes to this particular trip because it’s been a trip where I’ve felt close to my husband, have made great memories with my kids, and have felt at peace while enjoying the simple life.

Here are some snapshots of our time together:

One of my favorite memories was at the Silverwood theme park when my 6 year old son and I were in water bumper boats and he held his squirt gun right on my head for a few minutes and I couldn’t escape. He soaked me! He was so proud of himself and it was funny to everyone else in the family (even me).
